Abstract Portrait Commissions constitute the core of Cosondra Sjostrom’s practice and the primary way collectors engage with her work.

Unlike traditional portraiture, these works do not depict physical likeness. Instead, through in-depth conversation, Sjostrom translates the muse’s or collector’s emotional identity, lived experience, memories, and psychological presence into a fully abstract chromatic painting. The resulting work becomes a time capsule: a visual embodiment of a specific human story that expands into universal resonance.

Each commission is highly individualized. The process includes:

• Studio development using layered impasto, scraping, and luminous veils
